Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Character Creation Concept

Description

I'm sure I'm not the only one who wishes the Naruto games had a character creation system. I mean, Soulcalibur has one. Dragon Ball Ultimate Tenkaichi and Xenoverse have one, Mortal Kombat Armageddon had one, Super Smash Bros has Mii fighters, and Tekken has a costume editor, so why hasn't there been a Naruto game with character creation yet? Well, here are my ideas if Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 (or any potential future Naruto game) had one.
My idea for character creation is based on a combination of Nintendo's Mii Maker and Soulcalibur V's character creation system. Like Soulcalibur V, you can create up to 50 original characters. You can also use creation mode to edit the costumes of real characters, like Naruto or Sasuke. As a bonus, unlike Soulcalibur V, in which doing so would take up an original character slot, the original creations and normal character edit categories are separate, like in Super Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U.
The two sections shown here represent Creation Menu categories (on the left), and your character's overall information (On the right).

The Creation Menu categories are as follows:

1. Name Entry: Simple and self-explanatory. You can enter your character's name here. Unlike Soulcalibur V, you actually have the option to enter a first and last name for your character, primarily because I hate text limits in character names like Soulcalibur and Nintendo's Mii Maker have, so in order to remove that text limit, you can enter a first and last name. This allows you to enter names such as "Lars Alexandersson"or "Naruto (Brawl Legends)" without running out of text space. Only the first name will be displayed in the character's HUD during gameplay, although the character's entire name will be displayed on the victory screen. The text limit for both names is 25 characters, allowing creation of names as long as 50 characters.

2. Fighting Style: You can choose a fighting style for your character to use. You can select any of the 100+ Naruto characters' movesets or a selection of original movesets exclusive to your creation (potentially 5-10. Depends on how involved Kishimoto would be). Lars Alexandersson's moveset from Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 would return as one of the Create-a-Ninja exclusive styles. Fighting style refers to a characters' normal combos and their tilt, but does not include their, Jutsu, Awakening, or Ultimate Jutsu. The character's throw can be chosen separately from their fighting style. For example, your character could have Naruto's fighting style, but he'd use Minato's throw, or vice-versa, any combination. You can also choose you character's Substitution Jutsu, determining whether they'll leave behind a log, disappear by teleporting, leave a trail of sand or water, or leave behind a random item like a bowl of ramen or a Nice Guy suit.

3. Customize Body: This allows you to choose your character's gender, height, and fitness. The three heights are Small (referring to young/child characters such as Hanabi Hyuga, Boruto, and Konohamaru), Medium (referring to teenage/short adult characters such as Shippuden Naruto, The Last Hinata, and Konan), and Tall (referring to adult/tall characters such as Minato Namikaze, Madara Uchiha, and Kisame Hoshigaki). Wehn a height base is selected, characters will have a slider that allows players to customize how short or tall they are, ranging from the height of Part I Konohamaru and Part I Hanabi to that of Adult Naruto and Kisame. Weight can be freely customized. Characters can be as skinny as Akatsuki Nagato or as chubby as Choza Akimichi).

4. Customize Head: This allows you to customize your character's face, hairstyle, and more. Similar to Miis, you can choose a default head shape, and proceed to customize the characters' hairstyle, head accessory (such as a hat or headband), eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth, facial scars, facial hair, and face accessories (such as a mask or glasses). In addition, you can also edit your characters' voice with a choice of 6 male and 6 female voice options. Like Soulcalibur V, you can edit how deep the voice sounds, and add a malfestation effect. Voice Actor options coming soon...

5. Customize Outfit: This lets you choose what your character wears. The categories are Head (items such as Kage or Akatsuki hats, etc. Separate from headbands and masks), Underwear (torso, full body, and legs), Torso (variety of shirts and jackets), Outer Wear (such as a hokage jacket/robe or cloak), Neck (scarves, necklaces, etc.), Hands (gloves, guantlets, bandages, missing arms, etc., Feet (shoes, etc.), Accessory 1 (Torso accessories, such as Sage Naruto's scroll, a sword scabbard, etc.), Accessory 2 (Waist items, such as Kakashi's training bells, an Anbu mask attached to your belt, belts and sashes, etc.), and Accessory 3 (Additional equipment, such as a Mecha-Naruto doll on your shoulder, a Tailed Beast tail, a butterfly net, horns, etc.)

6. Edit Colors: This allows you to edit the colors of everything: Skin, eyes, hair, clothes, accessories, Jutsu, and Chakra.

7. Jutsu: Self-explanatory, you can choose your characters's Jutsu. You'll be able to choose up to ten Jutsu, although only two can be used in battle: Five for your character's base form, and five for their Awakening. You can select the Jutsu you want to use before the match begins, and you'll choose for both your base form and Awakening.

8. Ultimate Jutsu: Choose your character's finishing move. The Ultimate Jutsu aren't limited to just individual Ultimate Jutsu. You can also choose a character's Team Ultimate Jutsu (or Secret Techique as they were called in the PS2 games and Storm 4). When choosing the Team Ultimate Jutsu, you can choose which character your Ninja will represent. For example, in Naruto and Sasuke's technique, you can select whether your character will be Naruto or Sasuke. This effects the dialogue spoken during the attack, such as your character saying something like "Let's go, Naruto!", and Naruto will reply "Alright--!", cutting off Sasuke's name in favor of your character. The same happens with Sasuke saying "Let's go--!" and your character replying "Alright, Sasuke!". The lines spoken by normal characters will be re-recorded so that they don't sound like the original dialogue is cut off for no reason. Additionally, you will also be able to customize your characters' Ultimate Jutsu Finish image. Similar to Soulcalibur V's portrait editor, you will be able to take a picture of your character performing a specific pose in front of a stock image background, such as the Hidden Leaf Forest, Hokage Monument, or Ninja War Battlefield. Once you've snapped the picture, you can choose one of four potential lines of dialogue for your character to say, which will be different depending on the voice chosen for your character.

9. Awakening: Yep, you can customize your character's Awakening, choosing from any of the Naruto characters' Awakenings or a generic "Ultimate Mode" Awakening. With this possibility, you could have a character like Gaara awaken with Susano'o, or perhaps imagine what it'd be like if Naruto learned the Eight Gates? The possibilities are incredible! The Awakening chosen will determine what the characters' Awakening actions will be, however, almost any Jutsu can be chosen, within reason. The limitations are that you won't be able to say, use Chidori while transformed into Shukaku, or activate a Tailed Beast Bomb in a Curse Mark Second State. However, you can make some crazy combinations, such as a Six-Tailed Chakra Cloak with Fang over Fang, or Eight Gates release with a Planetary Rasengan.

10. Test Play: This lets you test out your character's moveset in a match against a CPU-controlled Kakashi. You can play around with your character's entire moveset, from Ultimate Jutsu to Awakening, and if you're not happy with it, you can go back and edit it.

11. Finish Edit. Finish editing your character and return to mode select or character slot selection.

Here's a brief summary of the menu shown on the right:

1. Name: The character's full name is displayed here. As shown, my character's name is Lee Hatake, based on my OC.

2. Gender: Your character's gender. Lee is a man, so the "Male" option is chosen.

3. Face: This displays the face template you used for your character. Since Lee is an Uchiha, I used The Last Sasuke's facial shape.

4. Hairstyle: Displays the hairstyle chosen. Lee has spiky hair that hangs over to the side, so I used Kakashi's hairstyle. The game specifically states the hairstyle as "Kakashi (Jonin)" since you can also choose Young Kakashi and Epilogue Kakashi's hairstyles.

5. Eyes: This indicates whether or not you use a special eye effect on your character. In this case, I used (Sasuke's) Mangekyo Sharingan for his eyes. The special eye options you can use are: Sharingan, Mangekyo Sharingan, Eternal Mangekyo, Sharingan (Single Eye), Mangekyo Sharingan (Single Eye), Byakugan, Tenseigan, Rinnegan, Six Paths Eye, Sharingan, Rinnegan, Jinchuriki, and Sage Mode.
The Sharingan styles range in variations for all known eyes, from single tomoe to three tomoe, and every known variation of Mangekyo Sharingan, such as Sasuke's, Obito/Kakashi's, Itachi's, Shisui's, Madara's, Izuna's, and Shin Uchiha's, along with original designs created by Kishimoto. Jinchuriki eyes refer to Naruto's eyes when he's in either his initial Nine-Tails form, his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, Nine-Tails Chakra Sage Mode, or Kurama Link Mode. Sage Mode eyes range from Jiraiya's Toad Sage Mode, Naruto and Minato's Toad Sage Mode, Kabuto's Snake Sage Mode, Hashirama's Sage Mode, and Six Paths Sage Mode.

6. Body: This refers to the character's height. Since Lee is an adult, his height style is set to tall.

7. Style: Refers to the character's fighting style. I like Shisui's fighting style, so I'd assign it to Lee.

8. Throw: Even though they're customized under the same category, the fighting style and character's throws are listed separately in this menu. Since Lee awakens the Mangekyo Sharingan, his throw would be Susano'o: Crush, the move used by Kage Summit Sasuke.

9. Jutsu: The character's Jutsu. Since Lee is an active user of the Rasengan, I gave him the Rasengan Barrage because I like double Rasengans.

10. Awakening: The characer's awakening. Since Lee awakens the Susano'o, but doesn't awaken the giant Susano'o used by Madara and Sasuke, I gave him Itachi's Susano'o. Like Jutsu colors, the color of your character's Susano'o can also be customized. Lee's would be black.

11. Ultimate Jutsu: The character's finishing move. I gave him Kakashi's Lightning Blade: Twin Lightning Shiver since he can use Chidori, but doesn't use it as often as Rasengan, so I assigned it as his Ultimate Jutsu.

12. Press Triangle to view model: This lets you view your character in full, showing off different animations and poses for you to save screenshots of on your console.

13: Ultimate Jutsu Finish Image: The rectangle with the picture inside of it indicates the screenshot for the character's Ultimate Jutsu finish. I had to hunt down an old image of Kakashi that I edited to look like Lee for this image.
