PlayStation X Nintendo Roster (Vita Version)

Description

I've recently purchased a PlayStation Vita and since I bought the PS3 version of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, I received a digital copy of the Vita version for free. The two games are virtually identical other than a few menu designs and the graphics are a bit more detailed on the PS3 version, but one difference is the design of their character select screens. The PS3 version shows all 24 characters on-screen and shows the selected characters at the bottom of the screen, although the Vita version will only display the current selected characters and the character selection screen opens up in a new tab and features the first 20 characters on one page, and the 4 DLC characters on a second page. So, long story short, I've decided to reimagine the character selection screen for the handheld versions of my PlayStation x Nintendo crossover. This is how the character selection appears on the Vita version.

Taken from in-game screenshots from my Vita, the character select is virtually identical to the one in PlayStation All-Stars on Vita. However, wherein PS All-Stars only had two pages of characters, this game has a total of 4. Many of the PlayStation characters remain in the same order as in PS All-Stars, thus some characters from the same franchise do not appear next to each other like they do in the console and 3DS versions of the game. Compared to the PlayStation consoles and Wii U versions of the game, most of the characters have been completely re-ordered and many even feature all-new character portraits.

As before, I have several unused character slots on the selection screen. I'm saving these for future characters that may be added once the full roster for the new Super Smash Bros has been revealed.

The characters are the same for both the console and handheld versions of the game, although there are several differences between versions. Here are a list of these differences:

Console vs Handheld versions:

1. Solid Snake's default appearance in the console versions is that of Old Snake from Metal Gear Solid 4. In the handheld versions, his default appearance is the same as his appearance in Super Smash Bros Brawl.

2. In the console versions, Lucario is a hidden character that shares a slot with Mewtwo. In the handheld versions, he appears in his own slot next to Mewtwo.

3. Many of the hidden characters in the console version now appear on the character selection screen, sharing a portrait with the other character in that slot. Other characters who can switch out with each other now appear in the same portrait as well. Examples include:
Trevor, Michael, & Franklin, Pokemon Trainer Red with Squirtle, Ivysaur, & Charizard, Samus & Zero Suit Samus, Marth & Roy, and Ness & Lucas. Despite appearing in the same slot, many of these characters remain separate characters from the original character, save for Zero Suit Samus, the GTA trio, and Red's Pokemon team.

4. The characters are not completely separated by company. Most of the PlayStation characters appear before the Nintendo characters, but there are also several PlayStation characters that appear after the Nintendo characters as well.

5. The blank slots featured in the console versions are shown as question marks (?) in the handheld version.

6. A "RANDOM" slot appears at the end of the character list, with unused space big enough for two slots shown between it and the final "?" slot.

7. The character's current rank is shown on the handheld versions, although this is mainly because the feature slipped my mind when I made the original console selection screens. I do plan to implement this into future console screenshots that I may create.

8. The font styles are different. The console versions use highlighted text that is color-coded to the player that selected that character. In the Vita version, the text is the same as PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

9. The console versions display 3D models of the characters in the character selection screen. The Vita version does not.

10. The Vita version's background reflects on the character theme used in the main menu, just like in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. The console versions use a unique background design based on a combination of PlayStation's rival arena and Nintendo's Subspace.

11. In the console version, every PlayStation character's portrait features a unique background whereas the Nintendo side uses the same background for all characters. In the handheld version, every character has a unique background. (This may be changed in future console screenshots).

12. All of the Nintendo characters and a few PlayStation characters have completely different or slightly modified portraits from their console counterparts.

Future differences (3DS version VS Vita Version)

1. All characters from the same franchise will be grouped together. (i.e. All inFamous characters, all God of War characters).

2. The Vita version lists all playable characters with PlayStation characters appearing first. The 3DS version will list Nintendo characters first.

3. The Vita version lists several Sony characters first, Nintendo and third-party characters second, and more PlayStation characters last. In the 3DS version, Nintendo characters will be listed first, third-party characters will be listed in the middle, and PlayStation characters will be listed last.

4. The Vita version's character list takes up 4 pages due to having only one screen to display them. The 3DS version will take advantage of having two screens and will only have two pages that include all of the characters.

5. Since the 3DS version utilizes two screens, it will display the 3D renders of each character as the console version does.
